Posing the question, “What’s the difference between good ice cream and great ice cream?” Mayday Ice Cream has the answer. Carefully craft tried-and-true classics like Triple Vanilla and Session Chocolate as well as unique flavor combinations such as Blackberry Earl Grey and Rose White Chocolate with only the highest quality ingredients and lots of love.

Mayday Ice Cream, the newest culinary venture from Stephen DiMare, who owns The Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops, a popular St. Augustine-based popsicle brand with shops now located all over the state from Ft. Lauderdale to Gainesville, is now open and ready to serve residents and visitors licks and spoonfuls of some of the best ice cream they’ve ever tasted.

So where did these tasty flavor combinations come from? “I wanted the flavor names to be distinctive and descriptive at the same time,” DiMare explained. “Many of them are drawn from my own life experiences. Denali Postcard is our version of Rocky Road, and originated from my time on the rocky Denali Highway in Alaska. Gillespie’s Bourbon Pecan is named for my great-grandfather’s side of the family in Mississippi.”

Boasting a storyline in its own right, Mayday Ice Cream is named in honor of innovative Americans who served our country in World War II. Flying transport runs in Europe during the darkest hours, a handful of pilots decided to make the best of a difficult situation. They realized that the freezing temperatures at the altitudes they regularly flew were perfect for making ice cream. With buckets full of cream and sugar strapped to the rear gunner’s compartments, ice cream (and a reminder of home) was created by the time they landed safely on the ground.
